Who We Are

Matheson Financial Partners is a fee-only financial planning and wealth management firm specializing in helping sales professionals accumulate and preserve their wealth. We achieve this by helping our clients define and prioritize goals, then create a strategic spending plan that maximizes the opportunities of variable/bonus compensation plans. Additionally, we manage investments, plan for major life events such as college or retirement, help mitigate taxes and provide estate planning guidance to protect loved ones. Located in the San Francisco Bay Area, we serve clients both locally and virtually nationwide.

Leading our independent firm is Tony Matheson, CFP® - who has spent decades relating to clients who discover that the treadmill of hitting their sales goals has taken precedence over managing what they’ve earned.

Founder & Wealth Advisor

Tony founded Matheson Financial Partners in 2017 after selling investment solutions to financial advisors for over 20 years. Prior to founding MFP, Tony was head of sales with some of the largest asset management firms in the country, including Principal Financial. His first sales territory took him to New York for 4 years until he returned home to lead the sales division for the San Francisco Bay Area region.

His vision was to design an independent fee-only firm to deliver comprehensive financial planning as a fiduciary, specializing in solving the challenges that many sales professionals face.  

Over his career, Tony has helped advisors identify solutions and implement investment strategies for their clients. He has been a featured speaker at various industry events on topics including economic forecasts, optimizing social security payments, and college planning.

Tony is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Theological Studies from Bethany University in Santa Cruz, CA. He grew up in the San Francisco Bay area and currently lives in Walnut Creek, CA with his wife Barbara and their 2 kids. When he’s not working, you’ll probably find him on his Peloton bike or a softball diamond. He has completed marathons from SF to NYC and has volunteered with various organizations including Financial Planning for Cancer.

Financial Planning & Investment Management

For our clients with over $500,000 of investable assets we provide a comprehensive analysis and financial plan that includes portfolio management.  Our fee for this wealth management service is tiered based on the amount of assets we manage.

Investment Management

For our clients in the $100,000 - $500,000 asset range we offer a-la-carte investment management services.  Anything over $500,000 automatically qualifies for Platinum Level.

Our standard advisory fee for Gold Level is based on the market value of the assets under management and are calculated as follows:

QuickStart Plan

With the QuickStart Plan we will provide:

  1. Initial help organizing your relevant financial information.
  2. 90 minute conversation (phone, video or in person) to answer questions and strategize.
  3. 3 - 5 page summary and action plan to help you get on track.
  4. 2 weeks of email access after our meeting to answer any questions about the action plan.

We offer a QuickStart Plan for $499.
