Who We Are

Matheson Financial Partners helps clients in the San Francisco Bay Area and throughout the country with financial planning, investment management and business development.  They specialize in working with sales professionals and executives that have compensation structures that include deferred compensation, restricted stock units (RSUs), variable compensation, and bonus compensation.

Leading our independent firm is Tony Matheson, CFP® - who has spent decades relating to clients who discover that the treadmill of hitting their sales goals has taken precedence over managing what they’ve earned.  As an experienced financial planner that has “carried the bag” – he can identify client’s needs and free up some of their mental focus so those clients can focus on what business activities they do best.

Meet Tony Matheson

Tony Matheson, CFP® founded Matheson Financial Partners in 2017 after spending over 20 years in the investment management industry where he identified similar needs shared by many of his fellow sales professionals. After recognizing the unique challenges to this profession, he decided to launch his own wealth management firm and specialize in solving those challenges. His areas of expertise are the development of cash flow and tax planning strategies, portfolio management, as well as retirement and college planning.

Prior to founding Matheson Financial Partners, Tony was Vice President of Retirements and Investments for various global asset management firms including Principal Financial Group & and a subsidiary of Goldman Sachs. While there, he helped his clients create and implement sound investment portfolios. He also delivered services to help sales professionals grow their business. He has been a featured speaker at various industry conferences on topics ranging from economic forecasts to the timing of social security income payments.

Tony is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER TM. He graduated from Bethany University in Santa Cruz, CA with a Bachelor of Arts in Theological studies. His passion for helping others led him to work in the wealth management industry. He lives in Walnut Creek, California, with his wife, Barbara, and his 2 kids, Tanner and Siena. When he’s not working, you’ll find him crushing it in a rec league softball game or a fairway on the golf course. He and his family also love to spend their weekends hiking one of the many trails around Mount Diablo.

Financial Planning & Investment Management

For our clients with over $500,000 of investable assets we provide a comprehensive analysis and financial plan that includes portfolio management.  Our fee for this wealth management service is tiered based on the amount of assets we manage.

Investment Management

For our clients in the $100,000 - $500,000 asset range we offer a-la-carte investment management services.  Anything over $500,000 automatically qualifies for Platinum Level.

Our standard advisory fee for Gold Level is based on the market value of the assets under management and are calculated as follows:

QuickStart Plan

The QuickStart Plan was created to help those that find us through our Dave Ramsey SmartVestor Pro affiliation.

With the QuickStart Plan we will provide:

  1. Initial help organizing your relevant financial information.
  2. 90 minute conversation (phone, video or in person) to answer questions and strategize.
  3. 3 - 5 page summary and action plan to help you get on track.
  4. 2 weeks of email access after our meeting to answer any questions about the action plan.

We offer a QuickStart Plan for $499.

Our Proven Five Easy Step Process

The financial planning and investment management process followed by Matheson Financial Partners takes into account your unique circumstances. These include variable compensation and cash flow management, tax efficient investment strategies, college planning, estate planning and gifting strategies. These steps allow you to be driven to success and focus on what you do best while in partnership with us.

1 Getting to Know You

If we agree to be a good mutual fit after the initial interview, our team will follow up with a 60 minute meeting either by phone, video conference, or in person. Here we will concentrate on getting your background and story and you get to tell us what you want out of life.

2Get Organized!

The goal with this meeting is to help you get your financial house in order!  Either in person or using our secure Client Portal, you will bring statements, W-2s, tax returns, estate documents, and any other important documents and we will set you up with a system to keep you organized in the future.

3 Explore the Possibilities & Set Goals

Together we will review your personal relationship with money and learn about your values and what matters most to you. We will model some potential solutions at this stage.

4 Brainstorm Strategies & Analyze Tactics

Using state of the art software we will determine the optimal way to achieve your goals.  This is a collaborative effort where we can visualize different options and determine the best course of action to give you the highest probability of a positive outcome.

5 Recommendations & Prioritize

We’ll review your plan with you and finalize any adjustments and set clear priorities and goals. When completed and approved, we get to work on putting the plan into motion.
